Think four:eight {day 13}

Today is “Embrace Your Geekness Day”!

I’m sure many of you reading this had no idea there was even such a day. As a matter of fact, the CEO of Geeknet (the company that owns Geek.com), Scott Kauffman, was interviewed in a CNN article about the holiday noting:

People are getting in touch with their inner geekdom and that can take the form of many different kinds of passions or obsessions. It used to be a ’sports fan’ or a ’sports nut,’ now it’s a geek.

I have to confess… deep inside, I am very geeky! I love technology. I love techy gadgets. I even love reading techy manuals.

I could spend hours learning a new technique in Photoshop, Lightroom and other programs. When my family goes on vacation, I have my canvas tote packed to the brim with manuals on photography, software, computers, etc. Many times my daughter, Taylor, has tried to persuade me to change things up and bring a good book of classic literature. I keep saying I will, but the manuals always win out!

I am the designated one in our family to set up new entertainment and audio visual equipment. (However, now that our boys are older, they have some pretty good techy skills themselves!)

I should have seen it coming when I was still a teenager. In 1977, I signed up for the very first computer class at Chandler High School… Fortran. I don’t know what possessed me to do this because I am horrible in math! I suppose I was intrigued by this new and exciting form of technology invading our school and society!

If you are a “geek in hiding” or if you wear your geekness loud and proud… this is your day to celebrate!
